Are you thinking about living or moving to the Bay area and just want an honest opinion about what it’s really like? Hello, I’m Joseph Bradley with the EXP Realty. Welcome to another episode of Bay or Bust, where we discuss everything about the Bay area and it’s living. If you’re into that kind of thing, be sure to subscribe to my channel above. Finding information about living in the Bay area can be very challenging. What I’m going to do in this video is walk you through the good, the bad, and the ugly about living in the Bay area.

The first thing is the weather. I tell you, we don’t get snow here. There’s no shoveling and it’s beautiful weather. You’re always able to go out for a walk in the morning and a nice walk in the evening. This is a wonderful place to be.

Besides the obvious of the weather. There’s still so much here to do. You can go up to any of the mountains and there are hiking trails throughout the Bay area. There are bicycling trails. You can go sailing, you can go golfing. There are so many activities here that you could just get away and just have a wonderful day, weekend, or whatever your heart desires.

Living in this part of the United States is great because there are ways to transport yourself from one location to another. And one of the things we have is three of our major airports. We have San Francisco Airport, up toward San Francisco, San Jose in the South Bay, and Oakland in the East Bay. If you need to travel or want to go do something else, it’s here and it’s convenient.

Besides being a metropolitan city, we have tons of sports. We have everything from ice hockey, to soccer, to football, to baseball. Whatever your needs are, we have it right here.

But one of the reasons why I love living here is the variety of cultures. We have a wonderful melting pot of a different variety of ethnicities. We have a variety, not just the food, but the programs that we can go to see. And it’s where everyone just comes together and is what we are truly about.

Now that we talked about some things that are awesome in the Bay area, let’s talk about some things that could be improved or a little bit better. Let’s talk about the bad. One of the things is traffic. You want to be sure that you live close to where you work? Traffic takes a long time and it can be backed up for hours. You can spend 20 minutes just going a few miles. So if you’re going to be commuting around the Bay area, you want to be sure to know our public transportation system and your hours of work so that we know when the best times are to commute.

So if you’re going to be moving to the Bay area, one of the things you need to be concerned about is the taxes. Different cities have different tax rates. We can go up to 10% on a sales tax. Then you also have to be prepared for is your property taxes. And I usually calculate one and a quarter percent of your property when you purchase it, will be your tax rate. So one of the things I usually like to advise people before they move into the Bay area is not only the cost of homes but the cost of taxes and living here. So when you move here to the Bay area, you want to take consideration of all the costs. Not just the cost of purchasing the home, but the cost of what it takes to live here. Everything from the sales tax, the property tax to your income tax.

Let’s talk a little bit about the ugly. And the one thing that most people that shocked them when they move here is the price of our homes. You need to be prepared that the Silicon Valley and the Bay area is one of the highest prices on the West coast. So, one of the things that you need to look for when you’re moving to the Bay area or moving within the Bay area is where you’re locating to. You want to look at the schools and the amenities that are nearby that best suit your needs. So for example, if you’re moving to the Silicon Valley, you have a lot of high tech companies. And this tends to drive up the prices for the homes that are nearby. So not only are you looking for what’s good for your commute, but you also want to make sure that you’re in a good school district.

All of these come into factor when you’re buying. So if these things are important to you, you want to make sure to navigate properly for what’s best for you. So whether you’re buying, you’re selling or renting, you want to make sure you start early, do your investigation because any of the good deals go fast. And I hope this video gave you some idea about the good, the bad, and the ugly about living in the Bay area.
